Shirley Horacek  – biography

Shirley has a degree in art and after a 30 year career in education and education administration, now pursues her lifelong passion for creating art, specifically watercolor and mixed media. She has studied with several nationally renowned artists in workshop settings and classes with international travel. These artists include Judi Betts, Jim Kosvanec, Cathy Quiel, Chris VanWinkle, Brenda Swenson, Betty Carr, Tony Couch and Karlyn Holman.   

Currently Shirley is the President of the Nipomo Arts Commission, a member of the Morro Bay Art Association, El Camino Art Association, Central Coast Watercolor Society, and the National Watercolor Society.

Shirley teaches a “Watercolor Challenges” class for adults with the Pismo Beach Recreation Department’s Adult Education Program and occasional workshops at Art Central Art Supply and Gallery.

 She has participated in shows in Santa Barbara, at Art Central Gallery in San Luis Obispo, in Nipomo for the Nipomo Arts Commission, at the Dana Adobe “Arts at the Adobe” shows, at the Morro Bay Art Center, and with the Central Coast Watercolor Society.
